Invitation to the Conference:
‘Joint and Double Programmes in Europe’
26-27 November 2025, Lodz University of Technology

We are pleased to invite you to participate in the international conference “Joint and Double Programmes in Europe”, which will take place on 26-27 November 2025 at Lodz University of Technology.

In times of rapid change in European higher education, topics such as flexible learning pathways, micro-credentials, recognition of qualifications, and joint educational initiatives are gaining increasing importance. These elements form the foundation of modern educational models that respond to the diverse needs of students and the challenges of a changing labour market. Joint and double degree programmes, as expressions of deep academic cooperation across borders, play a key role in this transformation.

Such initiatives not only foster mobility and internationalization, but also significantly enhance the quality, attractiveness, and accessibility of education across Europe. In the context of the EU’s strategies for competitiveness, innovation, and sustainable development, they are seen as a pillar of the future European Education Area.

In light of the latest Council of the European Union recommendation and ministerial resolution, which pave the way for the implementation of the European Degree Label and, in the longer term, the potential introduction of a European Joint Degree, there is a clear need for an informed and forward-looking discussion on the future of these instruments. The Lodz conference will provide an excellent opportunity to engage in such dialogue – grounded in experience, research, and good practices from across the continent.

During the conference, we will explore:

  • lessons learned from implementing joint and double degree programmes,
  • mechanisms for recognition of learning outcomes and qualifications,
  • the role of micro-credentials and digital tools in building flexible study pathways,
  • legal and institutional frameworks supporting the development of transnational programmes,
  • prospects for introducing a European Joint Degree and its potential impact on national education systems.

We warmly invite you to Lodz (Łódź) for this three-day, thought-provoking event, bringing together experts, policymakers, university leaders, and international stakeholders. Together, we will seek answers to a fundamental question:

How can we effectively develop European joint study programmes and make them a true pillar of the future of higher education in Europe?

We look forward to welcoming you in Lodz (Łódź)!
